It’s Time to Chill Out
Life can be… more than a little hectic at times. These days, the world isn’t built to give us time to destress and recoup, we’ve got to find that time ourselves. And more often than not, we ignore the need for ‘me time’ in favor of getting things done.
Mom asked you to visit her this week… after your ten hour shift.
Your partner wants to go out with friends… you’ve just spent a full 24 hours cramming for a final.
Your best friend wants to grab drinks… but this is the first night your parents are watching the kid and you want sleep!
Its perfectly fine to turn them down. A night out would be fun, but that sleep is valuable as fuck.
Yeah, your mom might be upset. But that night sitting on the couch with a bottle of wine and Netflix? A great way to spend time alone when you’ve been forced to interact with people literally all day.
Your partner doesn’t get to go out. Big deal. Try again next week. It’s wonderful to help someone else get their ‘me time’, but you’ve got to take care of yourself first.
And sometimes, me time comes in the form of buying yourself presents.
Go get yourself those special chocolates you’ve been dying for. Don’t take them back to work, eat them at the shop. In fact, don’t go back to work five minutes before your break ends. Clock in when you’re supposed to.
One of the things I’ve found that helps me the most is actually experiencing something. Yes, you would enjoy those chocolates just as much in the break room at work. But would the experience be as fun?
Or go somewhere else for coffee. Even if it sucks, it was nice to try something new. And you never know, you might find your little slice of heaven or whatever. Regardless, you broke your normal morning routine. That always feels nice.
The point is- it’s totally valid to need time for yourself. And in a world made to keep you tired, take it where you can. Maybe people won’t understand why you want to go get that latte by yourself, fine. You do.
Your ‘me time’ doesn’t have to be Instagram worthy. Just something that makes you happy.
This post? This was some me time. No outfits, no photo editing- just talking. A nice little break.
What have you done for yourself lately?
