How To: Business Babe
At some point in your life, you’re going to have to pull out some sort of a business look. And if you’re lucky enough to either work or go somewhere that you can do business + personality at the same time, then it gets real fun.
And it can be surprisingly easy to inject a little bit of yourself into what would normally be a straight-laced look. Here’s how you do it:
Keep the concept simple: If you’re not already super comfortable with accessorizing outfits, don’t try to add too much to your look. A solid short, great pair of pants, and good pair of shoes will start you off just fine.
Take that simplicity and give it a twist: Skip the solid pants and go for something with a pattern or print. If you’re nervous about this- keep the colors neutral.
Be picky about the cut of your pants. You can go for a classic mid-rise trouser with a tapered ankle OR you can opt for something with a high waist, or cropped ankle (my personal fav), or maybe even with pleats and a tie waist. I recommend browsing ASOS– they have a ton of options for petites, plus size, maternity, and even tall options.
Metal details can take something boring and make it a lot more fun. I grabbed a black belt with extra tarnished gold details. It adds a pop without trying too hard.
Think of what you love: Take that thing you love and add it to your look.
Are you a fan of pastels? Grab a pastel purse and wear that.
They’re small details, but can say a lot about you. Even if your aiming for a professional look, there is no reason you can’t also be yourself.
The important thing to remember in all of this is that you will always look good if your clothes fit you properly. If something is too big or too small, you won’t look as professional as you would if it was properly fitted. While you can get away with oversized coats and sweaters- blazers, button ups, and trousers need to fit you correctly.
